Rubber band test #2, (10/9/2012), rubber bands, found wood, nails

Rubber band test #3, (10/9/2012), rubber bands, found wood, drawing pin

Rubber band test #4, (10/9/2012), rubber band, found canvas frame, drawing pin

Brought rubber bands and these are the result. I was messing around (all produced in about 10mins) with what and how I could hang things simply with rubber bands and a drawing pin. Will be interesting to see if they hold over the next few days. The question of wether or not they will stay is a question I was thinking about after making the work I showed at our drawing exhibition Objectduress just recently.

Andy and I went back to these tests just the other day and played around with the color of the pin that I used. We tried both yellow and white. White came out on top.

Drawing Show - Objectduress

Downward Ceiling Pull , (8/8/12), found and bought wood, blue rope, neon yellow builders string, found ceiling loop.

Poise, (7/8/12), bought ply wood, nail, metal off cut, neon yellow builders string.

Making work that I wasn't sure if they would stay put for an exhibition was a little daunting! But I also liked that aspect of them - being unstable. Downward Ceiling Pull was pulling the bolt hook out of the ceiling, and Lean was purely balanced in its position with the materials working together under tension to keep it upright.

Foyer Project

Debbie Tubb and I chose to try out working collaboratively for our Foyer Project because we have some of the same concerns and both enjoy a similar material base. We decided to set some rules, which were: we had a time frame of two hours and that one person worked at a time and we were not in conversation about what we were doing. We also filmed the whole time.
The materials we used were brought in on the day and we basically said to just bring in what ever we fancied and wanted to play around with.
In making a non-comunicative response based work, it became like a game which left what we were creating together fun and explorative. Which is how I often think of my own way of creating.
